Obituary for Robert Fred Dwight Rice

Robert Fred Dwight Rice
Robert Fred Dwight Rice

March 15, 1928 - November 24, 2017
Bob was born to Fred and Ann Rice in Winnipeg where he spent the next 22 years with older sister Margie (Jack Ward) and younger sister Jolly (Chuck LaVally). Roots grew deep and his closest friends to the very end were those made at River Heights High School and at the University of Manitoba. While at university he met the light of his life, Margaret Gail McNamara, whom he married on October 4,1951.
In short order they built a loving family Linda, Cheryl, Michael (Hilary) and Heather (Jim Copeman).
An electrical engineer, Bob’s entire working career was spent with IBM – if you have seen the movie ‘Hidden Figures’ he was the Canadian equivalent of the two IBM guys installing the room size computer for NASA.
An avid golfer and curler for much of his life it was Bridge that kept his mind active during his later years.
While he and Gail made Toronto home for most of their married life, the sweetest years were spent at their cottage on Muskoka Lake where one of their greatest joys was to be visited by their 3 granddaughters, Krista (Braeden Rangno), Courtney (Randy Packer) and Danielle (Andy Bower)
His beloved Gail died in June 1992.
Bob is survived and sorely missed by his sister Jolly, 4 children and 3 granddaughters.
No flowers are necessary, but feel free to raise a glass, share a memory or make a donation (via canadahelps.org) to Christ Church, 39 Everett St.,Belleville, ON K8P 3K1, where his son Michael is the Minister.
