Obituary for Thomas 'Stan' Stanley Reid

THOMAS STANLEY REID

At home in Plainfield on May 5, 2020, Stan passed away peacefully after a lengthy illness. At age 85, he lived a long and full life; his beloved wife and life partner, Beverley (Urch) at his side. A wonderful father and grandfather, he will be forever missed by his loving daughters, Allyson and Michelle, and his adored granddaughter, Alexandra Grace. Fondly remembering him are his sister, Mary (Hamblin) and husband, Wayne, many dear nieces and nephews and his close community of friends. Predeceased by his parents, Tom and Sarah, his brothers, Wallace, Goldie and Harry and his sisters, Marjorie (Green) and Marie (Peake).
Born in Huntingdon Township in 1935, he was a lifelong Thurlow resident, a member of St. Mark’s United Church and a steadfast Mason for 56 years. Master of Moira Lodge No. 11 in 1972 and District Deputy Grand Master 1998-1999. Over a span of fifty years, his working life ranged from a welder, an iron worker and a Property Assessor to a Real Estate Appraiser in the firm he established.
Stan made friends wherever he went – on the pitcher’s mound playing for Latta in the South Hastings Baseball League, on golf courses, at Masonic Lodge meetings and community gatherings and in all areas of his professional life. Along with his Belleville Kenmors teammates, Stan was inducted into the Belleville Sports Hall of Fame in 2017.

He loved his family, church, his work, travel, the Toronto Maple Leafs, laughter and a good chat. His kindness and unique sense of humour will be missed. Heartfelt thanks to the doctors, nurses and support staff for their care and compassion over the years.

If desired, donations may be made in Stan’s honour to the University of Ottawa “Heart Institute Foundation” (foundation.ottawaheart.ca). In keeping with Stan’s wishes, cremation arrangements have been made with QUINTE CREMATION & BURIAL SERVICES, 205 North Front Street, Belleville. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, a private family service will be held and followed at a later date by a Celebration of Life.

We’ve shared our lives these many years.
You’ve held my hand; you’ve held my heart.
So many blessings, so few tears –
Yet for a moment, we must part.
