Obituary for Manfred Reinhold "Fred" Schwarze

SCHWARZE, Manfred "Fred" Reinhold

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of our dad on January 15 2021, in his 87th year. Surrounded by family, at his home, he peacefully surrendered his battle with cancer. Fred was recently predeceased by his loving wife of 60 years, Gudrun. Fred is survived and lovingly remembered by two daughters Barbara Moynes s(Allan) of Ameliasburg, Bettina Gorrie (Bruce) of Brighton, four granddaughters and one great-granddaughter. Born in Berlin Germany on January 11, 1935, Fred immigrated to Canada in 1954, arriving at Toronto harbour, at the young age of 19, as a fully trained machinist. He worked for 10 years at Massey Ferguson, then Orenda Engines before moving with the family in 1970 to a hobby farm in Prince Edward County near Consecon, where he lived for almost 50 years. After another 15 years in manufacturing in the Quinte area, he opened his own machine shop. As a young man, his hobbies included racing motorcycles and jamming with friends playing the harmonica and accordion. Moving to the Quinte area allowed him to follow his real passion, sailing. The family spent many summers sailing the Bay of Quinte, The Thousand Islands and participating in the Wednesday night races. He also had a love for woodworking, building toys for his daughters including a beautiful doll house, cabinets and other furniture for the family home and as treasured gifts. He had an incurable desire to "tinker" and was forever adjusting and perfecting. Some of his projects drew suppressed chuckles and some were quite ingenious. On behalf of Dad, we would like to thank the Consecon community and Salem Road neighbours, for all the support and kindness that both Dad and Mom received from the time they first moved to the 'farm' until they passed on. You could not ask for better neighbours both past and present. If desired, memorial donations to a charity of your choice would be appreciated.
