Obituary for Jeannette Johanna Cornelissen (Jansen)

Cornelissen, Jeannette Johanna (Oma JJ) nee Jansen
Born in Eindhoven Holland on April 14, 1929, passed peacefully at Moira Place LTC with family by her side on April 30, 2021. She is survived by her children: Brent (Marilyn), Mark (Trish) and Robin (Rob) Sands, and special Mum to Elly Kidd and family. As well as ten grandchildren: Brad (Michelle), Megan Bulicki (Rob), Jonathan (Becca), Ian (Sandy), Sarah Goosney (Mark) & Joshua (Melissa) and Kevin Barnes (Jen) & Allison Barnes (Luis) and Matt Sands (Alix), & Dan Sands (Tyla). And 11 great-grand children.
Jeannette arrived in Canada by boat with her husband Rene in 1954 settling in Toronto. In the early years she enjoyed curling, volunteering at Scarborough General Hospital and was a member of Don Heights Unitarian Congregation. Later she enjoyed travelling, her road trips in her Cadillac convertible and the Toronto Symphony Orchestra. Jeannette moved to Belleville in 2002 where she joined the Newcomers group (Friendship Club), The Opera Guild and Probus. She loved going to Operas, and enjoyed car rallies, potluck dinners, cryptic crosswords, and the challenge of playing Jeopardy. Reading was a big part of Jeannette’s life. She was looking forward to Louise Penny’s next book. Because Jeannette was such a stickler of grammar and spelling, she took to correcting the grammar and spelling mistakes in the local newspaper and sent it back to the editor. Red pens were always handy!
As a passionate supporter of Environmental Activists, she never shied away from a good conversation of the importance of saving our green spaces.
Heartfelt thanks to the staff at Seasons Retirement Residence in Trenton for their care and compassion over the past 3 years and also to the staff at Moira Place LTC in Tweed for their exceptional and professional care over her last few weeks.
Cremation has taken place under the care of Quinte Cremation & Burial Services 68 North Front Street, Belleville (613-962-7900); a private family gathering will take place when Covid restrictions are lifted.
