Barrie spent his younger years in Ottawa. By his late teens, Barrie had moved to Churchill Manitoba where he began a career in radio and television with the CBC that eventually took him to Regina, Ottawa and Toronto. After the CBC, Barrie worked in public relations for the Canadian Life and Health Insurance Association and also taught media courses at Seneca College and Ryerson University. Barrie will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by family and friends for his kindness, generosity, optimism and sparkling sense of humour. If he could add a postscript, Barrie would most likely say "Don't cry because it's over. Smile because it happened."
