Obituary for Douglas Huston Jackson

Passed away at the age of 83 years at Belleville General Hospital on Monday, December 21st, 2020. Predeceased by beloved wife Marjorie (Dunlop) Jackson in 2008. Predeceased by his parents Arthur & Pearl (Huston) Jackson, predeceased by brother Gordon (Jean), and predeceased by sister Norma Lawson (Dave). Loving father to daughter Darlene Jackson & son in-law Barry Dafoe, daughter Heather Jackson & son in-law Mike Palidichuck, step-son Gary McGillivary (Barb) and step-son Peter McGillivary . Proud grandfather “Poppy” to Mark McGillivary & friend Faren, granddaughter Taylor Dafoe, grandson’s Jackson Dafoe, Jacob and Aidan Palidichuck. Poppa cherished his great-grandchildren Grayson & Ava McGillivary. Doug will be missed by many nieces, nephews and friends.

Doug was born August 18, 1937 in Omemee, Ontario. In his early 20’s Doug managed Steak Houses in Buffalo and Toronto. Doug moved to Belleville to manage the Queens Motel restaurant in the early 60’s, met Marjorie and they worked together for 40 years. Doug & Marjorie held contracts with the City of Belleville managing food concessions at: Memorial Arena, Zwicks Park, Riverside Park, Alemite Park, Legion Ball Park, Quinte Exhibition and Raceway, and Yardmen Arena Sports Centre. They started Sports Catering, creating memorable meals for many wedding’s and events. Doug opened DJ’s Donut Café in 1991, closing in 2008. Doug & Marj employed 100’s of the cities youth over those 40 years. Doug & Marjorie taught a strong work ethic and the value to having fun! Doug is a life member of the Kinsmen Club of Belleville, serving the community while making many lifetime friendships. He enjoyed travelling to England & Germany and especially loved the people and island of Cuba. Doug will be remembered by many for his stories, his delicious cooking, his interest in getting to know others and his passion for life.

A celebration of life will be held at a later time. Cremation arrangements under the direction of Quinte Cremation & Burial Services (613-962-7900).
