Clare Wesley Longhurst
December 25, 1933 – August 22, 2020
PICTON ON - Clare W. Longhurst 86 yrs. old well known as “Bubby”, died August 22, 2020 peacefully at the Picton hospital. He was born December 25, 1933 in Uxbridge, ON and is the son of Delbert and Jean Longhurst. Clare married Sheila Dane on August 23, 1958. Clare and Sheila Longhurst (deceased suddenly July 21, 2020) moved to Prince Edward County at the Sandy Hook Corner in the late sixties, and Clare proudly built their 5-bedroom family home and workshop in 1975. They celebrated 62 years of marriage.
Clare was a successful businessman, and passionate about his career as a Licensed Electrician. He owned and operated Longhurst Electric, Clare’s Small Engine Repair, and the Sandy Hook Variety & Gas Station. Many tradesmen who worked with Clare say they remember this about him “when the pipe was in his mouth everyone works, when he pulls out the pipe work will stop, Clare is thinking”, because it had to be done right, and it was. Clare will be remembered for his old-fashioned personality, his charm and loyalty. He loved the outdoors, hunting, boating, fishing, gardening and grooming his lawn to perfection, or he was in his workshop fixing or building something.
In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his wife Sheila, brothers Morley, Gordon, Alvin, and sister Barbara. Surviving are his 3 children; Steven Longhurst (Terry-Lee), Penny Longhurst Forrester, and Murry Longhurst (Cherie) Grandchildren; Steven, Ryan, Mackenzie, Caroline, and Amanda.
